speed up simulations in Modelsim

How Can I get modelsim to use 1ns for a time interval for simulation rather than something in the Pico second range? Are there any other methods for speeding up simulation? It takes 45 minuts to get ...

Faster computer yes, extra RAM not so much.

According to Mentor, the 64 bit version of modelsim runs slower than the 32 bit version.
