sof2flash, elf2flash and bin2flash returning 255

I have one theory that might or might not explain what you've been seeing.

Your update to SuSE might have removed an older version of some library needed by quartus 12.1 Since SuSE isn't a supported linux platform for Quartus it might not have registered the fact that it needs the older library and the OS thought it was OK to remove it during the upgrade.
