Quartus II compatibility with Windows 8

Hello all,

I am an amateur programmer who has recently started learning VHDL. I have downloaded and installed the Quatus II Free Web Edition from Altera's website. Just for starters I tried to implement and simulate a simple Half Adder. The code compiled without any issues however, when I run a Functional Simulation on the code in order to obtain a waveform diagram, a small window opens and closes immediately and there is no change to the output line.

However, when run on a windows 7 machine, it worked fine. Is there some compatibility issue of Quartus 2 with windows 8? Or are there any particular settings to be tweaked?

Any help is highly appreciated.

My apologies if I sound too much like a novice.

Thanks in advance,

IIRC, the current Quartus II version is still not "OFFICIALLY" compatible with Windows 8.

if you're using ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition, see if you can launch it stand alone

I am also having windows 8.1 incompatiblity issues, even though I'm on Windows 10.

"WARNING: Detected Windows 8.1 incompatibility. There is a Cygwin incompatibility with Windows 8.1 that

must be fixed before using the Monitor Program.

Please visit http://www.altera.com/education/univ/software/quartus2/unv-quartus2.htmlfor information on fixing this issue."

Unfortunately the url does not exist.

    Suggestions?
