Problem with USB-BLASTER driver

Hi all,

Please I need some help as I have tried everything and am getting nowhere fast!. I have a Vista machine onto which I loaded the 8.0 programmer as this was all i needed at the time, and installed the USB-Blaster driver and all was well. I later needed to install the full FREE development software which was a 7.1 version as I don't like upgrading during a project unless I need the extra features. I then tried to program and the driver was missing in both the programmer and the development versions. I un-installed the driver and it wouldn't install again, then un-installed everything and installed 8.0 version development software. I doesn't seem to matter what I do I cant get the driver to install. Depending on how i install it I get messages such as file missing or name already known as a service or display service. Does anyone have an idea, is there a driver cleaner or system cleaner? I would be very happy if i could resolve this quickly as I have to be on a customer site tomorrow and If I cant get the Laptop to work I will have to take my desktop.

Thanks for any help

Robert

    Hi Robert,

Do you connect your USB Blaster to PC when you try to install the driver?

BTW - two version of QuartusII software under one operational system is the bad idea (imho).

I've always been using different Quartus versions in parallel (with Win2k) and never experienced any USB Blaster problems. I suspect, this is a Vista specific issue. Some of my customers have a rule to keep the Quartus version if only smaller changes to a project are applied. Fortunately Quartus is supporting this practice very effective by the version specific software organisation. I hope, this feature can be continued with Windows Vista.
