problem cant generate post-fit netlists for design partitions

Hi,

I have a large project that I split into design partitions a while ago. As I modifiy each section I set the design partitions to source file and back to post-fit when successgfully copiled and working. This is mainly to speed up compile time but there are some speed critical parts of the design I wish to preserve the routing on.

This worked fine until recently when I discover I am now getting the message:

'Warning: Interface for the following design partitions was changed by necessary netlist modifications during the Fitter - disabling usage of Post-Fit Netlists generated from this compile'

under this warning the detail is:

' Warning: Partition "hard_block:hard_block_inst"'s interface was changed'

I don't know what hard_block is or how to find out. It is not something I've designed.

The result therefore is that the post-fit netlists are not available for my partitions to use!

The design does contain a nios and this is one of the partitions. There are about five other partitions all on a top level sheet.

I have tried deleting the database and re-compiling from scratch but this has made no difference.

Please can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to find my problem.

    What version of Quartus? I saw something like this in 8.x and it was fixed in Q9.0. I didn't get much on details but there was some hard IP(like PLLs, seredes, etc.) that get merged across partitions(which is good), but have some infrastructure put in to make sure each partition was aware of it, and in one case this wasn't working. I don't know the details, but wanted to see if you could try a 9.0 version.

    Also, do you have any idea what changes you made, i.e. it was working for a while and recently stopped. Did you add a new interface into SOPC builder or something like that?

    You could be on to my problem. I'm still running 8.0. I'll upgrade to 9 and give it a try.

    The problems seem to have gone now.

    I had to upgrade to service pack 2 of Quartus 9. but now my partitons work again.
