Need Help / Quartus II Web Edition Release 14 for Windows

I am a student and new to Quartus II software. I downloaded Quartus II Web Edition Release 14 for Windows. I downloaded and installed the combined file quartus-web-14.0.0.200-windows.tar (2.1 GB) on my windows 8.1 PC. I then downloaded and installed quartus ii software v14.0 update 1. I think the installer was not correctly created by Altera because I did not see options to install devices. I had to separately download and install devices when I ran Quartus II the first time. When I built the project, I got the build error. Have you ever seen this error?

    I'd try uninstalling everything with the uninstaller. Then 1) Install quartus 2) Install device support files 3) install the quartus update.

    Thanks much for your reply. I tried that (uninstalled everything, installed Quartus, installed device support files, and installed update) 3 times, but I could not build the program. I then tried install Quartus II on Ubuntu and Windows 7, and I could build the program the first time I tried. I think Quartus II does not work on Windows 8.1.

    Yes now that you mention it, Windows 8 is listed as a supported OS, and Windows 8.1 isn't listed.
