There are a few things you can do to protect your computer from ransomware. First, make sure that you have a good anti-virus program installed and running. Second, be careful about what you click on and download. If you're not sure about a website or email attachment, don't click on it. Finally, keep your operating system and software up to date. This will help close any security holes that ransomware might exploit.
If you do get hit with ransomware, the best thing to do is to restore your computer from a backup. If you don't have a backup, you may be able to use special decryption tools to recover your files. However, these tools are not always successful and they may not be available for the type of ransomware you have.
In some cases, you may be able to get your files back without paying the ransom. This is more likely if the ransomware attack is not very sophisticated. However, even in these cases, it's always best to assume that your files are lost and take steps to prevent the attack from happening again.
Anyway, as a victim of ransomware, I can say that paying the ransom is not always the best option.
