To do paddress := paddress + 1 you need the clock:

architecture..

variable paddress : unsigned(9 downto 0);

begin

process(resetn, clk)

begin

if(resetn = '0' ) then

paddress := "0000000000";

elsif(clk'event and clk ='1' ) then

paddress := paddress + 1;

end if;

end process;
