Code Editors -- Modelsim, Quartus, Tabs and Spaces

A few editor-related questions:

* Is there a way to make the tabs and spacing operate the same in Modelsim and in Quartus?

(I try to edit in only one of the tools but inevitably I switch between them and I end up having to clean things up.)

* Do either of these editors have "clean up" functions where you can select a section, press a key and all the indentations become consistent?

(I know there are other editors out there, but I'm guilty of not having had the time and energy to deal with that path.... until now?)

* Does anyone have personal experience with some of these other not-for-free editors?

  • Simplifide

* Or with these for-free editors?

  • Emacs

  • Nedit

    You should be able to do this since you can change the treatment of tabs in the Quartus II text editor.

    As for personal preference I like Notepad++, it supports practically every language under the sun and is maintained regularly.
