I have been been using quartus and modelsim for awhile now and never ran into this issue. I have updated my file a couple days ago and it compiled perfectly. Not it will not and in ModelSim it says# ...

This often happens when modelsim has crashed while running a simulation.

Just delete the _lock folder and try again.
