What will it take to get a linux version of the uClinux development environment? Be specific, please. Windows with a barely working installation of cygwin is not a viable development environment for linux applications. What will it take, or how much will it cost, for a version of microtronix uClinux that works with the linux tools provided by Altera?
Thanks. - Altera_Forum

It's been looked at as a potential project here but no commitments as to when or if we'll proceed.

Since we need this project (the cygwin port of the altera tools is so anemic it's frustratingly difficult to get anything real (i.e. pre-packaged open source software) compiled under it; besides which, windows is just not a convenient development platform for linux applications), what can we (SolarTech) do to get this project moving forward?
Thanks, - Altera_Forum

Development on Linux is not a problem as long as long as you ditch that pesky IDE. Nothing's better than the good old command line. We have a linux 2.6.11 kernel (custom port based on Microtronix 2.6.9) with a lot of open source apps up and running, and all of the development is done on Linux. If you need some tips and hints, please let me know.

Did you just take the source to the microtronix stuff, pick a target directory to be root, and then start compiling uClibc et al into it?
Are all of the tools easy enough to use that building an image and sending it up the USB byteBlasterII was easy enough? In short, if you could provide an outline of what it took you (I'm not looking for details -- I'm pretty comfortable reading man pages etc (and besides wouldn't ask you to do the work for me) and also prefer the command line). Something like a mildly detailed overview -- not guidelines to follow, but something that gives a rough idea of the work involved -- would be very kind of you and extremely helpful. Wierd, I'm very sorry about that. Try sending it to chris@chrislansdown.com -- I have no idea why the email address in this system isn't working, and thank you for your patience.

Hi clansdown,
if you plan to build your own toolchain for uClinux on Nios2, you should visit marc leeman's webpage (http://scorpius.homelinux.org/~marc/nios2.html). There are lots of information on how to build your toolchain and compile the kernel. I have followed the instructions, it works great, and I am currently making my own patches and tutorial to explain more completely how it works. If you are intereseted, I can post it here when I am finished. Regards pod - Altera_Forum

Hello
Anyone else has been having prblems with the zip file ? I've tried to download it several times but winzip always complains it is bad. Winrar can look at it (also complaining about an unexpected end of file), but can't extract. Is it just us down under or is there anyhing else I need to do ? Regards Nir - Altera_Forum
