https://www.altera.com/literature/tt/tt_nios2_multiprocessor_tutorial.pdf And the accompanying code is here: https://www.altera.com/support/support-resources/design-examples/intellectual-property/embedded/nios-ii/exm-multi-nios2-hardware.html The example is a bit different now but should illustrate the same concepts.
