Questions regarding trying to implement a golf ProTracer!

Have any of you heard of protracer? here's an example: ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z16vfhf3g0o ) It provides an incredible view of a golf balls trajectory.

Would something like this be possible to do with a High Quality Camera and an FPGA board?

My thinking is along these lines:

"after capturing the images, the camera is able to distinguish (using dsp) where the white ball is in each frame, and in the playback reconstruction it paints a line over the position of the ball. since these cameras have a very high sampling rate, they're able to create a very smooth, accurate line."

I guess my 1st question would be how quality of a camera would you need to track a tiny white object up to 400 yards away? How do you neglect birds/other foreign objects?

Do you guys know of any sample projects similar to this?

Thanks for any and all input! I'm really looking forward to hearing from you

Very possible. Are you sure the existing technology doesn't use FPGAs? I have my suspicions...

I saw a very similar demo during a recent trip I made to Altera here in the UK. Not golf balls, but tracking movement of items equally small as a percentage of the screen.

    Cheers,
