Hi,

I am new to Altera NIOS II board and I want to learn more about it, as in how I can use it to create a project with the interface from PC as well as other hardwares. Is it possible for me to come up with this project in a period of less than 5 months? If it is, what is the first step that I should take?

    In my opinion the Nios 2 Hardware Development Tutorial is the best place to start (link at the bottom), mainly because it demonstrates the vital link between Quartus and Nios II IDE. I'd recommend going through the steps in the tutorial, and then depending on how hard/simple you find the process, you can consider whether you can do your project in 5 months...There are also several other tutorials in Nios II IDE specifically designed to help learn...

    The documents included with your development board along with those included on the Altera website like:

    will provide you with the knowledge you need.

    As far as your question of how long it takes. For those who are experienced with FPGA design and the NIOS, a project like what you are describing can be done in weeks or even days. The power of the NIOS processor is that it allows you to develop and debug very quickly. Using the embedded processor can easily shave months of work off your design time.
