Max V power - convert 5v to 1.8v and 3.3v

I'm looking for way to power Max V CPLD. I have have either +5v from game console or 3xAA (1.5v) battery. Max V needs 1.8v and I think 3.3v for programming. Does anyone know of such a DC to DC converter ( I think is what they are called) that could do the job.

thanks

or better yet if someone has a schematic with the basics, i.e. power and JTAG for Max V with 1.8v and 3.3v That would be very helpful. Plan right now is to review the dev kit and try to copy as much as I can.

Ideally I would like to be able to use with 3 x 1.5v AA batteries (4.5v total) and hence something that is efficient would be great.

Is 500ma enough to power a Max V? if yes then MIC5357 seems to fit the purpose.

Yes. a Linear regulator would be advisable here. DC-DCs switch at high speed so as to produce say 500mA at 3.3V from 330mA at 5V.

If you can accept lower efficiency then a Low DropOut regulator (LDO) which will only ever give 500mA at 3.3V from 500mA at 5V.

LDOs will always be easier to implement, so should be concidered first, if you simply can't cope with the performance of a LDO, only then should you use a DC-DC.
