13 years agoDon't bother trying to install old tools in new operating systems. Its not worth your frustration. Install VirtualBox on your Windows 8 machine, and then install Windows XP in VirtualBox followed by Quartus 4.2.
If you are lucky, Windows 8 will allow the USB-Blaster to be captured by the Virtual Machine. Windows 7 would not allow this (at least for my tests). Windows XP and Linux hosts worked ok. If you store the Virtual Machines on a USB hard-drive, then you can boot the VMs on any machine you like (use the "Machine->Add" menu option in Virtual Box, and then remove it when you are done).
