Cheapest Solution for 17 SERDES

Hi there,

Hope you guys can give me some advice here.

How can I fit 17 SERDES to a single and cheapest possible chip, for the sake of simplicity, and also trying to save cost. I can’t wait for the Xilinx chip, so I tried to look into Altera device, Stratix 4 GX 230 density is able to do the job, but the price is out of my budget. Smaller density like 110 should be cost effective but do not offer enough SERDES channel.

Anyone has similar experience? Any advice is welcomed. Thanks!!!

Can you be a little more specific on the requirement? E.g. what data rate, what protocol and type of interface?

I’m working on SFI5 unidirectional receiver interface design. I need 17 SERDES channels running at 2.5Gbps.

There is a package for 110 that offer 16 SERDES. For the 17th channel you can try the PMA only channel. But only certain package for 110 density has PMA only channel. You should look into the PMA-only spec carefully before you decide to use it for your design.

If you need detail information on how to implement the transceiver in Altera FPGA, there is a workshop offered by Altera, try this:
