Can Virtual Jtag Ip and Uart Jtag Ip work together?

Saw this great post about using quartus_stp.exe on a pc connected to a de0-nano's jtag:

The quartus_stp allows network connected devices to communicate to the jtag device!

In the past, I've always used altera's jtag uart ip with the terminal program (nios command shell) for simple command/status. However, from the blog post, it seems the virtual jtag ip is needed for quartus_stp.exe communication.

So I'm wondering, is it possible to connect the sld_virtual_jtag to the jtag uart, so that the nios still processes data as if it came directly from the jtag, but in reality came across the network?
