The board has not failed in the same way since it failed the first time.
You can go ahead and close the case. I have a paper trail of this problem to
fall back on if it happens again.

Super ContributorI had 6 of these boards have almost a similar problem! They would shut down in this manner after a random period of time. However, in my case, flipping the switch off and on brought them back, but then after more random time, they would shut off again. They were in open air just like you have it so it did not seem like a thermal issue. I have a number of additional boards that don't have this problem at all.
I just RMA'ed the bad ones. It was impossible to reproduce reliably to diagnose since I had no idea how long it would be before a board would shut down.

Believe it or not, my board came back to life yesterday. I have no idea why. I had completely disconnected it and was looking into sending it back to Mouser for service. On a whim, I thought I'd try one more time (it had been a couple of hours) and, oddly, it powered up.
I will work more with the board today and see how it goes. Now I notice that I'm concerned about leaving the board running for very long, as it's the only one I have and I'm trying to complete a project with it before the end of the month.
It would be good to know, from Intel, what the data is on boards failing in the field and having to be returned for repair. When I talk with Mouser, I'll see if I can get any data from their customer support.
