The Quartus II GUI fails upon startup

Description

If your quartus2.qreg file includes the line:

General\Check_for_New_Info_Message_at_Startup=Yes

and you attempt to start the Quartus II GUI, startup fails.

Resolution

In your quartus2.qreg file, change the line

General\Check_for_New_Info_Message_at_Startup=Yes

to

General\Check_for_New_Info_Message_at_Startup=No

The quartus2.qreg file is located in ~/.altera.quartus
