Error (170208): Cannot place <X> nodes into a single ALM

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II software version 12.1 SP1, you may see this error message during the Fitter when using port-fit partitions and setting Fitter Preservation Level to Placement.

Resolution

A patch is available to fix this problem in the Quartus II software version 12.1 SP1. Download and install patch 1.dp6c from the appropriate link below. Be sure to read the readme for additional information. Before applying this patch, you must download and install patch 1.dp6 from the related solution below.

• Download the version 12.1 SP1 patch 1.dp6c for Windows (.exe)
• Download the version 12.1 SP1 patch 1.dp6c for Linux (.tar)
• Download the Readme for the Quartus II software version 12.1 SP1 patch 1.dp6c (.txt)

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future release of the Quartus II software.
