Error (10002): Can't open VHDL or Verilog HDL file

Description

When compiling a design in the Quartus® II software, you may experience the following error message:

Error (10002): Can't open VHDL or Verilog HDL file "{Hierarchy}/{file_name}"

The error is caused when the hierarchy path exceeds the 256 character path limit.

Resolution

To work around this problem, shorten the hierarchy path below the 256 character path limit.
