Stratix V EDC Support for Linear / Limiting Optics

Hello,

The purpose of my inquiry is to assess what the hardware design requirements are for the implementation of SFP+ and QSFP+ optics when using Stratix V. In our application, we require support of both SFP+ (10GbE) and QSFP+ (40GbE) optics.

I would like to obtain a further understanding of the Stratix V transceivers as it relates to support of these standards. In particular, I need to understand the requirements for external dispersion compensation and CDR in the case where non-retiming optical modules are used. Thus, my questions are:

[1] Do the Stratix V transceivers incorporate EDC?

[2] Do the Stratix V transceivers fully support non-retimed optical modules without external dispersion compensation or an external CDR chip?

[3] If support is available for non-retimed modules does Altera specify the maximum number of inches of copper allowed between the SFP+ / QSFP+ cage and the balls on the Stratix V package?

[4] Do the Stratix V transcievers support both limiting and linear modules?

Thank-you for your assistance with this.

Best regards,

James
