In my experience the close-source example GUIs provided with the kits only work with specific installations of Quartus under specific versions of windows. They're nice to use to confirm that the hardware works out-of-the-box, but since they do not supply the source code, they're not much use in the long run.

What did you want to do with your DE0-nano? I've posted a couple of example designs in some other threads, eg.,
