1. how to enter: The ALTERAFORUM GURU CHALLENGE Giveaway ("Giveaway") begins at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time on MONDAY, JULY 21st, 2008 and ends at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31st, 2008.
   • internet entry: Use a computer or other Internet access device to access the Altera Forum web site at www.alteraforum.com("Web Site") and then register as an Altera Forum user. LIMIT ONE (1) REGISTRATION PER PERSON.

2. eligibility: Only legal persons, (i) who are physically located and residing in the Continental U.S. or otherwise eligible under applicable local laws, (ii) who receive an email invitation from Altera Corporation (“Sponsor”) to participate in the Giveaway, (iii) who are 18 years of age or older as of the commencement of the Giveaway Period, and (iv) who have not received a prize under any Sponsor giveaway or contest in the prior twelve (12) months. Employees of Sponsor, including its distributors and sales representatives, and those involved in the development, production (including prize suppliers), implementation and distribution of this Giveaway, and their advertising or promotion agencies, parent companies, agents, officers, subsidiaries, service providers and affiliates, and any other persons or entities directly associated with this Giveaway ("Sponsor Entities") and members of the immediate families and/or persons living in the same household as such persons are ineligible to enter the Giveaway or win a prize.

3. giveaway: one (1) quartus ii license valued at $2,495.00 and one (1) neek valued at $449.00 for each of the first five (5) top posters; one (1) ipod shuffle 1gb valued at $49.00 for each of the next five (5) top posters; and one (1) altera mug valued at $7.00 for each off the next ten (10) top posters. No transfer, substitution, or cash equivalent for prize, except at Sponsor's sole discretion, due to prize unavailability for any reason and then only for prize of comparable value. Any depiction of the prize is for illustrative purpose only. “Top posters” are established by the following formula: (reputation rating) plus (the number of posts divided by two).

4. notification: Prizes will be provided to the recipients within approximately three to four weeks from the date of receipt of the eligible entries. Each winner will be notified by e-mail. If the winner cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been exerted during ten (10) business days from the date of receipt of the eligible entries, or if he/she is found to be ineligible, or if he/she cannot or does not comply with these Official Rules, such winner will be disqualified and an eligible recipient will be selected based on the order of receipt of eligible entries.

5. general conditions: This Giveaway is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Return of prize or prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification of winner and an alternate winner may be selected. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for the Sponsor and its agencies to use the winner's Alteraforum profile name and avatar for advertising and trade purposes without further compensation, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known and hereafter devised, including without limitation online, unless prohibited by law. Entries become the sole property of Sponsor and will not be returned. Any person attempting to defraud Sponsor or in any way tamper with this Giveaway will be ineligible for the prize and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. If, for any reason, the Internet portion of the Giveaway is not capable of running as originally planned, such as tampering or infection by computer virus, Sponsor at its sole discretion, reserves the right to cancel the Giveaway. Void where prohibited by law.

6. judging: This Giveaway is subject to these Official Rules, which will be posted at the Giveaway Web Site during the Giveaway Period. Sponsor will audit postings to enforce minimum quality standards. By entering the Giveaway, entrants agree to waive any right to claim any ambiguity or error in the Official Rules or the Giveaway itself, and agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by all decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding in all respects. By entering the Giveaway, entrants affirm that they have read and accepted these Official Rules.
