I2C Newbie

Hello there

I'm having trouble with I2C to interface a codec on my cyclone ii board. Altera sent me 4 vhdl files: i2c_master_bit_ctrl, i2c_master_byte_control, opencores_i2c_master and i2c_master_top. Bascially, all I am wanting is to send an address and command, and this writes to the codec on the SDa data line. When I try to use these files in simulation, i cannot get any output on the sclk and sda what-so-ever. Has anyone used these files before or have any helpful waveforms? Screen dumps would be excellant!
