17 years agoIn the general case, I and Q aren't normalized and cover a certain amplitude range. Some kind of normalization, e. g. dividing by I^2+Q^2, is required, if the decoder output has to be correctly scaled. Cause the carrier magnitude can be expected to vary only slowly, other means as an AGC can be used as well. This is the case with usual FM receivers.
