Cyclone V FPGA - now shipping - prices

Hello!

I have just got a newsletter from Altera which announces that first Cyclone V devices are shipped now. After visiting the Altera page I found out, that they only offer the 5CEA7 and 5CGXC7 at the moment (which offers much more LEs than we need).

We have to decide us for a FPGA for developing a new product these days. The Cyclone V would help us a lot because of the 400 Mhz DDR memory controller (200 Mhz at Cyclone IV will be a problem for us). But for our product, we will need only around 10000 to 15000 LEs and Cyclone V is starting at 25000 LEs!

My question: When the smaller Cyclone V (5CEA2, 25000 LEs, FPGA484) will be available, will their prices be comparable to smaller Cyclone IV devices (EP4CE10, 10000 LEs, FPGA 484). I mean, will the price for the 5CEA2 be around 2+ times as high as for EP4CE10 because of the higher LE amount or will it cost only slightly more?

Second question:

Altera shows a price of around USD 240 for the 5CEA7 (1 piece). Does anybody have an idea of the 1000 piece price for them and especially for smaller Cyclone V (e.g. 5CEA2)?

Greetings

Bx

You should contact your local distributor, they are usually very helpful with those kind of questions and can give you an official response.

I think that basing your assumptions on the prices of the Cyclone IV is reasonable, it should give you a good idea of what to expect. But before committing to anything on your project, you should try and get an answer from your distributor.

I have contacted my rep for availability . . no response. I would imagine the next 3 - 6 months, but something from Altera on this would be helpful. -James

The 5CEBA2 parts are in stock at Digi-Key now. Those are the smallest C5 parts without the hard DDR controllers. Has anyone had any luck getting decent pricing on them? This thread is asking about a 5CEA2 versus an EP4CE10. The best pricing I’ve been able to get on a 5CEBA2 is still about 4x what I can get on an EP4CE10.
