Avalon ST output to "outside" onboard logic

(In SOPC builder) I have an Avalon-ST single clock FIFO, and I want the output of the fifo to connect to logic outside of my Nios II system. What's the best way to do this? Do I have to instantiate an onchip FIFO with ST input and MM output and/or use Parallel I/O?
