Internal Error: Sub-system: PGMIO, File: /quartus/pgm/pgmio/pgmio_devices.cpp, Line: 7672 Can not locate the SFL sof file: <filename>

Description

When you open a JTAG Indirect Configuration File (.jic) in the Quartus® II Programmer, you may receive the above error. This error may occur when opening the .jic in an older version of the Quartus II Programmer than the version in which it was generated.

Resolution

To avoid this problem, use a version of the Quartus II Programmer which is the same or newer than the version of the Quartus II software used to generate the .jic.
