Why might my 50G Ethernet IP Core lose word lock?

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime software version 17.0 and earlier, the 50G Ethernet IP core will lose word lock after receiving 16 incorrect frame headers in a window length of 64 frame headers. The Ethernet specification states that this should only happen after 65 incorrect frame headers in a window length of 1024 frame headers.

Resolution

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future release of the Quartus Prime software.
