Why does the Quartus II Text Editor freeze when highlighting a number?

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II software Text Editor versions 11.1 and 12.0, highlighting a number in the Text Editor may cause the Quartus II Text Editor to freeze.

Resolution

To work around this issue, turn off the Highlight similar instances of a selected word option by following the steps below:

1. Open the Quartus II Text Editor
2. Select Options from the Tools menu
3. Click on Text Editor in the Category window
4. Turn off the option Highlight similar instances of a selected word

This problem is fixed beginning with the Quartus II software version 12.1.
