Why does the ModelSim-Altera Edition software fail to launch?

Description

Some antivirus software such as Norton 360 may incorrectly flag vish.exe in the ModelSim-Altera Edition software version 10.4b and later as an infected virus file.

If you are using Norton 360, it incorrectly flags vish.exe as a virus. This happens during use of the ModelSim-Altera Edition simulator rather than during installation.

Resolution

To work around this problem, add vish.exe to the antivirus exclusion list. Vish.exe is located in the /win32aloem directory.

For Norton 360 follow these steps:

1. Go into Norton Security Suite
2. Choose Settings
3. Choose Antivirus
4. Choose the tab "Scans and Risks"
5. Under "Scans and Risks" choose "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection", Configure [ ]
6.  Select file "[Altera installation directory]\15.1\modelsim_ase\win32aloem\vish.exe

Mentor Graphics is working with the antivirus vendors to fix this problem.
