Why does the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software version 17.1 Update 1 require recompilation after opening a design in a different operating system?

Description

Due to a problem between the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software version 17.1 Update 1 database for Windows* OS and Linux* OS, you may observe that all modules status in the compilation dashboard shows a question mark symbol. Additionally, opening the project database in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Timing Analyzer may generate the following error message: 

ERROR: Can't run TimeQuest Timing Analyzer (quartus_sta) -- Fitter (quartus_fit) failed or was not run. Run the Fitter (quartus_fit) successfully before running the TimeQuest analyzer (create_timing_netlist).

Resolution

This problem has been fixed starting in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software version 18.0.
