Why does the fitter fail without an error message?

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus Prime software Pro edition version 16.0, you may see the fitter fail without an error message if you do not have a valid quartus_pro license.

This problem only occurs in the GUI, the command line executable does report that the quartus_pro license feature is unavailable.

Resolution

To work around this problem, ensure that you have a valid quartus_pro license feature.

In a future release of the Quartus Prime software, you will get an error message in this situation.
