Why does Nios® II Embedded Design Suite (EDS) - Eclipse crash and cause a segmentation fault?

Description

Due to a problem in the Cygwin libraries and Windows* 10, you may see a segmentation fault with the JTAG UART when using NIOS with the Nios® II Embedded Design Suite (EDS) in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.1.1.

Resolution

To work around this problem, follow the instructions to install Windows* Subsystem for Linux* (WSL) on Windows*. Please refer to this KDB: How do I install the Windows* Subsystem for Linux* (WSL) on Windows?
