Why do I get the error message VHDL type mismatch error at <location>: type <type> used with bit string literal must be BIT type when the ENABLE_SIGNALTAP option is turned ON?

Description

This error message is due to a problem in the VHDL-87 support in the Quartus^® II software version 2.2 SP2. This has been fixed in Quartus II software version 3.0.

As a work-around in the Quartus II software version 2.2 SP2, switch the Quartus II setting from VHDL-87 mode to VHDL-93 mode (Assignments Menu->Settings->HDL Input Settings->VHDL Input).
