Why do I get a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION when starting nios2-terminal?

Description

An issue has been identified where the Nios® II terminal will crash with an access violation when attempting to connect to a target JTAG UART interface when the configured buffer size is larger than 16384 bytes.  The resultant error message is similar to the following:

Resolution

To work around this issue, reduce the JTAG Uart RX and TX buffer sizes to no greater than 16384 bytes.  This issue shall be resolved in a future version of the Quartus® II software.
