Why are the AXI Streaming IP for PCI Express* and AXI Multichannel DMA IP for PCI Express* IPs missing from the IP Catalog in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 24.3?

Description

Due to usability problems in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software version 24.2 or earlier, the AXI Streaming IP for PCI Express* (AXI ST PCIe IP) and AXI Multichannel DMA IP for PCI Express* (AXI MCDMA IP) have been hidden from the IP Catalog starting with the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 24.3.

This does not prevent opening an existing design containing these IPs or upgrading designs created from previous Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software versions that included either of these IP.

For the latest updates regarding these two IPs, please check with your local Altera FAE.

The following are known issues with these IP in Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 24.3:

  • Non-HIP native mode not available for enablement
  • Limited AXI MCDMA design examples for user modes including BAM and BAS
  • Simulation support not enabled for AXI MCDMA design example
  • Timing closure for AXI MCDMA Packet Loopback design example not currently achievable
Resolution

To explore these IPs (e.g., view the IP interfaces, signals, or generate IP simulation model/scripts) for a new design in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 24.3, the following Platform Designer commands (qsys-edit) can be used to open the hidden IPs:

  • AXI Streaming IP for PCI Express*

qsys-edit --new-component-type=intel_pcie_ss_axi --family="Agilex 7" --part=AGIB023R18A2E2VR0 --new-quartus-project=test1 &

  • AXI Multichannel DMA IP for PCI Express*

qsys-edit --new-component-type=intel_pcie_axi_mcdma --family="Agilex 7" --part=AGIB023R18A2E2VR0 --new-quartus-project=test1 &

The AXI Streaming IP for PCI Express* and AXI Multichannel DMA IP for PCI Express* have been re-enabled starting with the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 24.3.1.
