What is the Altera recommendation for simulating signals at receiver input pins?

Description

When simulating receivers using industry standard signal tools such as Hyperlynx using IBIS models, Altera recommends probing receiver signals at the device die rather than device pins. This represents what the actual buffer sees at the die.

Probing at receiver input pins may include device package reflections which are not seen at the die.  These reflections may result in a non-monotonic rising and / or falling waveform, which can appear to be a glitch in the input switching threshold region.

Ensure the rising and falling waveforms are monotonic through the input switching threshold region when probing at the die.
