"User Mode" (m1_mode_hwtcl) "MCDMA" is out of range: "Bursting Master", "Bursting Slave", "BAM+BAS"

Description

Due to a problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 22.3, the Multi Channel DMA Intel® FPGA IP for PCI Express might report the following error if configuring the IP with Port Mode: "Root Port":

"User Mode" (m1_mode_hwtcl) "MCDMA" is out of range: "Bursting Master", "Bursting Slave", "BAM+BAS"

Resolution

To work around this problem, follow these steps using the IP parameter editor:

  1. Set the Hard IP and Port modes to Gen4 2x8, Native Endpoint (Top-Level Settings>Hard IP Mode/Port Mode).
  2. Set the PCIe1 MCDMA User Mode to Bursting Master (PCIe1 Settings>PCIe1 MCDMA Settings>User Mode).
  3. Set Hard IP mode back to the Root Port mode you require (ie Gen4 x16 / Gen4 x8 Root Port) (Top-Level Settings>Hard IP Mode/Port Mode)

If you are using the Platform Designer to instantiate the IP, these additional steps might be required for a successful compilation:

  1. Close the Platform Designer.
  2. Re-open the Platform Designer (.qsys) and click on the MCDMA IP Component.
  3. Click the Upgrade button under the Parameters window of the IP.

This problem is fixed in  Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software 22.4.
