Upgrading the Altera Soft Core JTAG I/O IP core generates a device family mismatch warning

Description

Upgrading the Altera® Soft Core JTAG I/O IP core from the Quartus® II software release version 13.1 to version 14.0 or beyond generates a "device family mismatch" warning.

Resolution

You can safely ignore this warning. The Soft Core JTAG I/O IP core does not require device-dependent resources, therefore your current device will support the IP core upgrade.
