libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Description

You may see this error when installing the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.1 on Ubuntu version 18.04 LTS.

This is because libpng12.so.0 has been superseded by libpng16.so.0.

Resolution

To work around this problem, install the required library libpng12.so.0 by downloading the libpng12-0 package from Ubuntu's website and installing the .deb file.
