"IP upgrade is optional...due to a port signature change" error in serial flash loader designs

Description

In the Quartus® II software release version 14.0, the polarity of the chip enable signal scein in the serial flash loader (SFL) is erroneously inverted. When compiling your SFL design, the software will generate the following error message: "IP upgrade is optional. If you upgrade this IP you may also need to update this IP in your design due to a port signature change."

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the Quartus II software release version 14.0 update 2.

There is no workaround for Quartus II software release version 14.0 or 14.0 update 1.
