"Fatal Error" when simluating Arria 10 device designs with Mentor Graphics ModelSim SE 10.3c

Description

In the Quartus II software release version 14.1, the following error is generated when simulating Arria 10 device designs with Mentor Graphics ModelSim SE version 10.3c:

# ** Fatal: Error occurred in protected context

Resolution

There are three solutions for this issue:

1. Add the novopt option to the modelsmi.ini file during installation.
2. Switch to Mentor Graphics ModelSim SE version 10.3d.
3. Use NativeLink to run ModelSim with the novopt option; in the Quartus II software, select Settings > Simulation > More NativeLink settings and set the Additional custom simulation elaboration options to value modelsim=-novopt.
