"Error: Third-party timing and resource estimation model project creation failed..." when generating Greybox synthesis models in Qsys

Description

When you attempt to generate Greybox synthesis models from Qsys or the parameter editor with the Device set to Unknown, the generation fails and produces the following generation error:

Error: Third-party timing and resource estimation model project creation failed: /acds_releases/acds/14.1/182/linux64/quartus/linux64/quartus_sh -t quartus_greybox.tcl

For example, the error occurs when you complete the following steps:

1. In the IP Catalog, under Device Family choose Arria 10
2. Open Interface Protocols > Ethernet > Low Latency 40G/100G Ethernet
3. Leave Device set to Unknown
4. Under Generate HDL, select Create timing and resource estimates for third-party EDA synthesis tools and Generate

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the Quartus II software version 15.0.

For previous software releases, you must select a device.
