Error: The system could not be opened: <filename>.qsys

Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® II software version 14.1 and earlier, you may see this error when opening a Qsys system by double clicking on it from the Project Navigator.

The problem may occur after changing the current working directory by opening a design file located in a different folder to where the .qsys file is located.

Resolution

To avoid this error, launch Qsys from the Tools menu and then open up the specific .qsys system from within Qsys (File > Open).

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in a future release of the Quartus II software.
