Error: Error (14996) The Fitter failed to find a legal placement for all periphery components

Description

Due to a problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.1 and earlier, this error will occur when compiling a project with both a fabric EMIF instance and an HPS EMIF instance. This error occurs because the Fabric EMIF and the HPS-EMIF cannot share an IO96 bank. When an HPS EMIF is using the bottom sub-bank of an IO bank, the Fabric EMIF cannot use the top sub-bank of that same IO bank.

Resolution

This issue has been fixed, starting with Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.2. You may update to Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.2 or newer.
