Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software versions 23.2, 23.3, and 23.4, you might see this error when renaming an instance after deleting another one in the Signal Tap Logic Analyzer. 

1. Open Quartus® (no project required)
2. Open Signal Tap Logic Analyzer (Default template -> create if there is no file) 
3. Rename the instance created by default
4. In the Signal Tap instance tab: right click -> create instance
5. Delete the original one (the one you rename first)
6. Rename the new one: Quartus® exit without a crash or giving further information.

Resolution

To workaround this problem, do not rename a Signal Tap instance after deleting one.
